Women
have
been involved in Information technology since its roots and today
we are blesses with hundreds of women in IT professional. In today's
world where it is generally accepted that women are equipped woth
equal qualities in educational and career prowess there is still
a large gap to be filled when it comes to issues of gender imbalance
and lack of exposure in this field. Women play a major role in the
IT sector and so this conference is dedicated to acknowledge that
factor and highlighting their achievements in the field.
Another
aim is to identify those factors that may be playing a role in hindering
women in IT sector.
Access to training is limited to women while admission for men in
industry is high. Literacy of women is low. That is due to the double
standards in society that have yet to allow them opportunities in
pursuing careers in IT.
Moreover,
lack of government support to women, which culminates in most of
them being low skilled labour thus relying on dependent resources,
is also a barrier for women in IT. Not forgetting Socio cultural,
silent dissemination and suxual stereotyping at work.
Parents,
Educators, Religion, the Media and Society at large need to address
these factors to fully coprehend and utilize the potential women
possess in IT and life as a whole.
Our
main intention to conduct this conference is to see what prospects
information technology has to offer women, especially for Africa.
